Best Budget 7 String Guitar for Metal? Need Recommendations!

Looking for Affordable 7-String Guitars

I’ve been diving into playing some more complex metal and djent styles lately and I really want to explore the world of 7-string guitars. However, my budget is pretty tight right now. I’m hoping to find some recommendations from fellow guitarists on the best budget options available.

Why 7-String?

For those who get it, the 7-string guitar opens up a lot of possibilities, especially for heavier genres. The extra string allows for deeper tones and more complex chords, not to mention it’s great for drop tunings. But I don’t want to break the bank in the process!

What I’m Looking For

  • Price Range: Ideally, under $500
  • Genres: Mostly metal and djent, but I also play some progressive rock
  • Features: Solid build, decent pickups, and good playability. Maybe something with a sleek look would be a plus!

Recommendations Anyone?

Can anyone share their personal experiences or suggest brands/models? I’ve heard of a few like Schecter and Ibanez, but I’m curious about any hidden gems or lesser-known brands that might fit the criteria. I really appreciate any feedback or insights you have!

Thanks in advance!

For budget-friendly 7-string guitars, I recommend the Ibanez RG7421. It’s great for metal and offers a solid build. I’ve had mine for a few years, and it plays beautifully!

I agree, the RG7421 is fantastic! Another good option is the Schecter Omen-7. It has great pickups and is super comfortable to play.

I’ve had a lot of success with the ESP LTD EC-257. It’s got a killer sound for the price, and the finish is gorgeous. Highly recommend it for any metal guitarist on a budget!

The Omen-7 is solid! But I’m curious, how does it compare to the Jackson Dinky Series? Anyone tried that?

The Jackson Dinky is a great choice too! I find it versatile and perfect for various metal styles. It might be slightly more, but worth checking out.

If you want something truly budget, consider the Harley Benton R-457. I bought one recently, and it surprised me with its quality. Can’t beat it for the price!

The EC-257 is on my list! Is it heavy? I prefer guitars that feel lighter when I’m playing long sets.

The ESP EC-257 is pretty comfortable for its size. It’s balanced nicely, so shouldn’t feel too heavy during longer play. Definitely worth considering!

I cannot stress enough how impressed I am with my Ibanez RG7321. Offers a great range and sound for metal. Just don’t expect it to endure too many drops! :joy:

I’ve heard mixed reviews about Harley Benton. Some say they skimp on quality. Has anyone had a bad experience?

To be fair, I’ve had good luck with my Harley Benton, but like any budget option, it varies. Definitely do some research on individual models.

If you’re looking for budget 7-string guitars, check out the ESP LTD EC-407! It has great pickups and a solid build, perfect for metal.

I love the EC-407! The sound is killer, and it feels very comfortable to play. Ergonomics really matter when you’re shredding!

Definitely consider the Ibanez RG7421 too! It has a lightweight design and decent pickups for heavy riffs. Super fun to play!

I think pickup types are crucial for metal tones. Active pickups can provide a different clarity and punch than passives. Curious if anyone prefers one over the other?

That’s a good point! I personally favor active pickups. They really cut through the mix when playing with a band!

For a budget option, don’t overlook the Schecter Omen-7! It’s got an attractive finish and decent build quality under $500. Worth a try for sure!

Tried the Schecter Omen-7 and it really surprised me with its sound quality! However, I noticed the neck is a bit thick for fast playing.

I agree! Neck thickness varies a ton, which can really affect playability. Does anyone have tips for adjusting to thicker necks?
