I’m looking to ship a couple of my musical instruments and I’m wondering about UPS’s services related to packing and shipping. Do they actually box up items for you, especially fragile ones like guitars or keyboards?
I know they offer shipping services, but I’ve heard mixed things about how well they handle delicate items.
Here are a few questions I have:
- Will they package my instruments properly?
- Do they provide the materials, or do I need to bring my own?
- Is there any extra cost for this service?
If anyone has experience with sending musical equipment through UPS or has tips on how to ensure everything arrives safely, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Hi everyone! I’m wondering if UPS actually boxes musical instruments for shipping. I’m planning to ship a guitar and want to make sure it’s safe.
UPS does provide packaging services, including boxing items like musical instruments. They have specific materials suited for fragile items too. It’s worth checking at your local store!
Yes, UPS has boxes that can accommodate various instruments. Just keep in mind that costs can vary based on size and the padding you choose. It’s super important for protecting your gear!
That’s good to know! How much did you end up paying for shipping and packaging?

It was about $50 for shipping my violin, including the box and packing materials. Definitely worth it for peace of mind!
I shipped a trumpet last month. UPS did a great job boxing it with sturdy materials. I just asked them to package it and they charged me a small fee, around $10.

That’s not too bad! Do you think it’s worth getting insurance on high-value instruments?

Definitely! I always insure my instruments when shipping. Musical gear can be expensive, and it gives you extra peace of mind while shipping.
Totally agree! Just shipped my drum set and I was a bit anxious. UPS packed it well and it made it in one piece!
I think it’s great that UPS offers this service, but do they really handle everything with care? I’ve heard mixed reviews.
It’s a mixed bag, I guess! I had a bad experience with them once, but most times, they handled my items well. Just make sure to choose appropriate packaging.
Good point! One time, I shipped my harp but didn’t use enough padding. It arrived slightly damaged. Lesson learned!
UPS does provide packaging services for musical instruments, but their prices can be a bit higher than FedEx. If you want a robust service, UPS is decent, especially for heavier instruments.

I’ve had mixed experiences with FedEx. They were great once, but another time my guitar arrived with a few dents. Packaging matters!
I’ve shipped a few instruments with USPS. They don’t have specialized packaging, which made me nervous. I’d say it’s convenient and cheaper, but I’d recommend using UPS for better protection.

While USPS can be budget-friendly, UPS does stand out in terms of reliability. If you’re shipping something like a violin, it’s worth the extra cost for peace of mind.
Exactly! I’ve shipped a variety of instruments before and UPS has always handled them with care. That’s a huge plus!
I’d add that FedEx has a good reputation for quick delivery times. So if you need something shipped urgently, they might be the way to go, even if their packaging isn’t as protective.
Great points, everyone! Although I prefer UPS, I think customer satisfaction varies regionally. Anyone else notice this?
