Looking for DIY Guitar Rack Dimensions - Help Needed!

I’ve used PVC pipes for a DIY rack before, and it’s surprisingly sturdy! Plus, you can cut them to size easily, which is great for adjusting dimensions.

Interesting! I never thought of PVC. Can it support heavier guitars, though?

Absolutely! I’ve had no issues and I play heavier models. Just make sure the joints are tight and secured. You can use brackets for extra support.

Don’t forget about using birch plywood! It’s lightweight yet strong and can help you save on dimensions without sacrificing sturdiness.

That’s a good point! How thick should the plywood be to ensure durability?

For a guitar rack, I’d say at least 3/4 inch thick should do the trick! Thinner than that and it might bend under weight.

What about dimensions? Any recommendations for height and width to keep it efficient without taking too much space?

Definitely! For a standard rack, aim for about 36 inches high and 30 inches wide. That seems to work well for most guitars.

I still think metal would be a better option for long-term durability over time. Does wood really hold up that well with moisture variations?

That’s a valid concern, but if sealed properly, wood can hold up just fine! Just don’t put it near air vents.

My neighbor built one with scrap wood and it looked great… until it fell apart! Maybe stick to new material for better results!

Haha, lesson learned! I’ll avoid using scrap material then.

There’s also the aesthetic part! If you finish wood properly, it can look really nice next to your gear.

It’s a good project for a weekend! Just think twice about those measurements. You want it to fit your space but still be functional!

I’m looking to make a rack for my collection of six guitars. What are some recommended dimensions that would work well?

A good starting point for your rack would be 36 inches wide and 48 inches tall. You might want an adjustable width depending on the guitar sizes, too!

For aesthetics, think about matching the rack with your room decor. Using wood that complements your furniture can make a big difference. Any suggestions on finishes?

I used a dark walnut finish for mine, and it looks fantastic! Also, don’t forget to add some padding in the slots to avoid damage.

Great point! Have you used foam or another material for padding?

Using rubber pads or foam works wonders! They help keep guitars steady and protected. How many guitars are you planning to store?
