Hey everyone! I’m really into acoustic music and I’m exploring Drop D tuning. Can anyone suggest some good songs?

You should check out “Blackbird” by The Beatles! It’s often played in Drop D and has a beautiful melody.

Great suggestion, idiaz! I also recommend “One Last Time” by The Verve. It’s fairly easy to play and sounds amazing on acoustic!

I love that song! Another classic is “Creep” by Radiohead. Perfect for Drop D, and it’s always a crowd-pleaser.

Absolutely! I also enjoy “Under the Bridge” by Red Hot Chili Peppers. The tuning really brings out the emotion.

“Under the Bridge” is awesome! Anyone tried “Heartbeats” by José González? It sounds incredible in Drop D, and it’s such a unique arrangement!

That’s a great recommendation! For something different, have you guys heard “Flower from the Man Who Shot Your Daddy” by The Decemberists? It has a cool Drop D vibe.

I haven’t heard that, but now I am curious! I’ll check it out. What about lesser-known artists?

Just lower the sixth string to D, and you’re good to go! It’s super easy to switch back and forth, too.

Thanks, larajohn! That’s super helpful. Would love to know what other techniques work well with Drop D for acoustic playing!

Fingerpicking really shines in Drop D! It’s a great way to bring out the bass notes. Just a thought!

Totally agree! You’ll find you’ll want to add some hammer-ons and pull-offs, too. Makes for a more dynamic sound!

This thread is filled with great suggestions! Last suggestion from me: give “Come Away with Me” by Norah Jones a try in Drop D. It’s such a soulful song.

Drop D tuning opens up some unique fingerstyle possibilities! Have you tried incorporating alternating bass lines? It gives the music a fuller sound. Just a tip!

I totally agree! I love fingerstyle in Drop D. It really allows for interesting melodic lines. You can also experiment with percussive techniques to add dynamics.

I recommend starting with simple strumming patterns. Try a down-up-down pattern; it works well with many songs. Once you get comfortable, you can add some flair with accents.
