Thoughts on Mark Tremonti's PRS Explorer?

The Tremonti’s aesthetic is also stunning! That sunburst finish just pops. Anyone else think it looks cooler than the Custom 24?

I wouldn’t say cooler, but the Explorer definitely stands out more on stage. Plus, it has a badass vibe that really matches Mark’s style.

What about build quality? I’ve heard some say the Custom 24 feels more premium in hand compared to the Explorer. Anyone have thoughts on this?

I totally agree! The Custom 24 feels really solid, but the Explorer isn’t far behind. Both are PRS, which means great quality!

I’ve been leaning towards the Tremonti Explorer due to its sound, but I’m slightly worried about the weight. Can it be too heavy for long gigs?

Honestly, it can be a bit of a workout. But the tone and sustain are worth it for me! Just make sure to take breaks.

Does anyone else have issues with string bends on the Tremonti? I feel like the frets could be a tad smoother. Just my experience, though! Am I being picky?

Not at all! It’s important to have a comfortable playing experience. Maybe a setup at your local shop could help smooth out the bends?

I’ve had a blast reading this thread! The comparisons are super helpful. In the end, whichever you choose, PRS quality rarely disappoints.

I’ve been really impressed with the overall quality of the PRS Explorer. The neck feels fantastic. Have any of you considered changing the pickups for a heavier sound?

I’ve been seriously thinking of swapping the stock pickups for some Dimarzio Super Distortions. Anyone have experience with these?

I swapped the pickups on mine for some Seymour Duncans, and it completely changed the tone. Much warmer with more clarity!

That’s interesting, xboyle! What model of Seymour Duncans did you use? I’m looking for something that can handle heavy gain without getting muddy.

I used the SH-4 and it’s brilliant for that! Cuts through the mix really nicely.

I’ve been thinking about upgrading the hardware. New tuners might really help with stability, especially when using the tremolo.

Totally agree, carolinenguyen! I installed locking tuners on mine, and it made tuning so much easier. No more tuning issues mid-performance!

Such a relief, right? I also think adding a different nut could optimize the tuning even more. Anyone tried that?

I’ve considered a graphite nut. I heard it gives better sustain, plus it lasts longer than plastic. Has anyone made that change?

I swapped mine for a bone nut and it enhanced the tone significantly! The clarity is just perfect now.

Thanks for the insight! I might just follow your lead. Aesthetically, I’m also considering adding some custom artwork. Have any of you personalized yours?
