Thoughts on the Yamaha Stage Custom 20" Bass Drum?

I’ve been considering picking up a Yamaha Stage Custom 20" bass drum, and I’d really appreciate any feedback from those who have played or own one. Here are a few points I’d love to hear your thoughts on:

Sound Quality

  • How does it compare to other bass drums in its class?
  • Is there a particular genre where it excels?

Playability

  • How does it feel while playing? Any tips for getting the best performance?
  • What’s your experience like with different drum heads?

Accessories and Components

  • Any recommended upgrades or accessories that really complement this drum?
  • What types of pedals work best?

I’m looking to invest in a good quality drum, and any insights would be super helpful! Thanks in advance for your input!

I’ve been playing the Yamaha Stage Custom 20" bass drum for about a year now, and I really love its warm, rich tone. It has great resonance that works well in both live and studio settings.

That’s awesome to hear! I prefer the 20" for genres like jazz and funk. It has a really nice punchy sound that fits right in.

I agree with both of you! The projection on the Stage Custom is impressive, especially in smaller venues. It doesn’t overpower but still commands attention.

Does anyone think it struggles in heavier styles? I find it lacks that deep thump you might want for hard rock or metal.

I can see why you’d feel that way, but I think it’s all about tuning. A good head can make a difference for heavier genres too!

What kind of heads would you recommend? I’m looking for something to enhance the low-end for rock playing.

I’ve had great luck with the Aquarian Superkick II for a punchier sound, but you might also try the Remo Powerstroke.

Thanks, that sounds helpful! The versatility of this drum seems appealing too. It’s interesting how it can serve various music genres.

I love how this drum can work for jazz, rock, and even pop! It’s like a swiss army knife for drummers.

It’s also lightweight, making it easy to transport to gigs! You can’t beat that for the price point.

Definitely! Though I still feel like it could use more low-end presence, especially when competing with guitars.

What about the overall build quality? I hear mixed reviews on durability for touring.

I’ve taken mine on several tours, and it’s held up fine. Just keep an eye on the hardware, as that seems to be the weaker point.

I recently got the Yamaha Stage Custom 20" bass drum, and I’m impressed by its build quality. The birch shell offers great resonance and warmth. Definitely a solid choice if you’re looking for longevity in a drum.

Absolutely, the craftsmanship is top-notch. Mine has held up well in various gigs, even with heavy usage. It really delivers in live settings!

I’ve had my Yamaha Stage Custom for about two years now. I’m curious if others have experienced any issues with the hardware over time. Reliability is crucial for me during gigs.

So far, so good! The hardware feels solid, and I’ve had no complaints. Just keep them clean and check the tension regularly.

I think it’s a reliable drum overall. The only thing I’d suggest is to use a good drum mat to prevent any sliding during live performances. It’s a small investment for added stability!

I appreciate the feedback on maintenance tips! I usually just wipe it down after every gig, does anyone do anything differently?
