Anyone Using Electro Voice Powered Monitor for Live Gigs?

I’ve been hearing a lot about the Electro-Voice PXM-12MP powered monitor lately, and I’m curious if it’s worth the investment for live music performances. I primarily work with a live band and occasionally do DJ gigs, and I’m looking for something that can deliver great sound quality and is easy to transport.

Here are a few things I’d love to get your thoughts on:

  • Sound Quality: How does the audio quality hold up in live settings? Is it clear across all frequencies?
  • Portability: Is it easy to carry around for gigs, or does it feel bulky?
  • Durability: How has it held up for you in terms of build quality and reliability?
  • Value: Is it worth the price point? Are there any alternatives that you would recommend?

Any insights or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I’ve been using the Electro Voice ZLX15P for live gigs, and the sound quality is fantastic! It offers great clarity and is pretty portable, which is a plus for gigging musicians.

I totally agree! The ZLX series seems to be a good balance of performance and price. Have you tried the ETX series? They’re pricier, but I’m hearing great things about their sound fidelity.

I haven’t tried the ETX series yet, but I’ve read that their bass response is excellent. I guess it depends on the type of gigs you’re doing. What kind of events do you usually play at?

I’m mostly playing small to medium venues. That’s why I’ve been sticking with the ZLX15P. It’s lightweight and does the job well. Curious about the price difference though, is the ETX worth it?

In my experience, the ETX is definitely an upgrade. The features are more advanced, but for smaller gigs, ZLX is usually more than enough. Just depends on your budget!

I’ve used the Evolve 50 for outdoor events, and it’s been a game-changer for portability and ease of setup. Anyone here experienced that model? How does it compare to the ZLX?

The Evolve 50 is more about being a portable PA, while the ZLX is a solid monitor. If you’re mainly monitoring, ZLX is probably the better bet. But for versatility, the Evolve is hard to beat!

Just a heads-up, I’ve read some mixed reviews about the longevity of the ZLX series. Is anyone else experiencing issues after a year or so? I’m debating whether to invest in them.

I’ve had my ZLX15P for about a year, and it’s still going strong. But I recommend checking how you treat your gear! I’ve seen others mistreat them, so maybe that affects longevity.

I agree with brandon41. As musicians, we can sometimes forget our gear doesn’t like to party as hard as we do! :joy: I love my ZLX but treating it well is key. How about extended warranties for peace of mind?

I think that’s a solid idea! Investing in a good monitor is essential for gigs. Better safe than sorry, right? What features are most important to everyone?

I’ve been using Electro Voice powered monitors for live gigs for a while now. One key tip is to position them at ear level for optimal sound. Make sure they’re at least a few feet away from walls to reduce reflections.

Absolutely! I’ve found that angling the monitors slightly toward the audience helps too. It really enhances clarity, especially in a live setting.

Don’t overlook using a good quality stand. If you’re on unstable ground, like a makeshift stage, a good stand helps keep the monitors steady. Stability matters in live gigs!

Totally agree with rwoods and curtismariah. Also, always remember to adjust the EQ settings according to the venue. What works in one space might not in another!

Consistency in monitor placement during soundcheck is vital. If you can, mark the spots where they sound best before the gig starts. It saves a lot of time—and headaches.

Such a good point! I’ve learned the hard way; settings should never be set and forget. A quick tune-up can make all the difference.

On a humorous note, I once had a monitor fall over during a show. Luckily, I caught it in time! Sturdy setup is essential, folks!

Haha, stewartamber! A monitor dive is always a heart-stopping moment! Also, consider using high-pass filters to minimize low frequency rumble, it can help keep the sound clean.
