Seeking Advice on Synyster Gates Guitar Pickups

Hey fellow guitar enthusiasts!

I’m diving into the world of guitar pickups and specifically looking at those associated with Synyster Gates from Avenged Sevenfold. I’ve heard amazing things about his signature pickups, but I’m curious to know more before I make a purchase. Here are a few things I’m hoping to get advice on:

Sound Characteristics

  • What can I expect in terms of sound?
  • How do the Synyster Gates pickups compare to other brands or models that you’ve tried?
  • Are they more suited for lead playing, or do they also handle rhythmic chugging well?

Compatibility and Installation

  • Are these pickups easy to install for someone with basic guitar knowledge?
  • What guitars do they fit best? Are there any models that are particularly recommended or discouraged?

User Experiences

  • For those of you who have already used Synyster Gates’ pickups, how has your experience been?
  • Do you feel they live up to the hype?
  • Any notable pros and cons?

  • If you have alternative suggestions that might give me a similar sound or feel, I’d love to hear those too!

Thanks in advance for any insights or experiences you can share. I’m excited to learn and gear up for some killer riffs!

Happy jamming!

I’ve been looking into Synyster Gates pickups myself! For heavy styles, I’d recommend the EMG HZ series, as they provide good output and clarity. They really cut through in a band setting.

I’ve tried those and love them! They bring a nice balance to rhythms while maintaining bite for solos.

While EMG’s are great for metal, don’t forget about Dimarzio’s Super Distortion pickups. They deliver warm tones perfect for classic rock and blues too!

I agree! Dimarzio’s pickups are versatile. What guitar models have you tried them with?

I use them on a PRS Custom 24—it works like a charm! Finding the right pickup often means considering your guitar type and the style you’re going for.

It’s all about finding good compatibility. For example, I’ve used Synyster’s pickups on a Fender Strat as well, but had to tweak the setup a bit.

Correct! And sometimes the setup can be more crucial than the pickups themselves!

Don’t forget about the tonal quality! Clarity, especially for cleans, can be affected heavily by the pickups you choose. What are you aiming to achieve tone-wise?

Honestly, I’m kind of all over the place with styles! One day it’s clean jazz, the next it’s screaming metal. I guess that makes me a bit of a pickup hoarder!

Life’s too short not to try everything! But it might be wise to stick with versatile pickups like PAFs; they can serve in a ton of different genres.

Reflecting on this, it’s fascinating how pickups influence our output and tone. I once swapped out the pickups in my guitar, and it felt like a new instrument!

I’m looking to install Synyster Gates pickups myself soon. Could anyone share the tools I’ll need for the installation? I want to ensure I have everything ready.

It’s true! I think of it as a sort of mad scientist experiment—some hits and misses!

You’ll typically need a soldering iron, a wire cutter, and a philips screwdriver. Don’t forget electrical tape and a multimeter for testing!

After gathering tools, plan out your process. Install them one at a time if you’re going to mix pickups. It really helps with troubleshooting down the line.

That’s great advice! Mixing pickups can lead to some unexpected sound challenges if you don’t do it carefully.

Also, remember to take pictures of your current wiring before you start! It will serve as a great reference when you’re connecting the new pickups.

Great tip! I always forget to do that. It’d save so much time troubleshooting later.

If you find the sound isn’t right, check the height of the pickups. Too high or low can really throw off your tone!
